ANIMAL RESCUE ON SLEEPY HOLLOW RD
Saturday, April 26, 2008
-
Today around 1300 hours, county dispatched an OIC call for Company 36. County advised that a resident had a cat stuck in a stone wall of their home. Chief and Lieutenant 36 responded to find the residents frantically trying to locate their cat, which had not been seen for five days. The home owner reported hearing the cat making noise in the area of a drainage pipe located in the back of the house. After a brief investigation, it was determined that the cat was somewhere within the home's drainage system. Additional crews arrived, and a plan was quickly formulated. Crews checked for the missing animal in a large diameter corrugated drainage pipe about 200 feet from the home. After discovering some cat hair and "other evidence" it was determined that the cat was definitely within the drainage system. With over 200 feet of underground pipe to check, it was like finding a needle in a haystack. A local plumbing company was called for their snake camera, which would be easily able to search the pipe. With their assitance we found the cat in a six inch diameter pipe near the center of the yard three feet underground. Crews worked quickly and dug a 3 foot by 3 foot hole. Once the hole was dug, a reciprocating saw was used to remove a portion of the pipe and remove the shaken animal. Crews were on scene approximately 3 hours.
